A good environmental consulting company can help by providing things such as a mold survey of the unit (before she moves in). 

I do think there is a growing population of people who are ready to take a second look at their carbon footprint, and if you can demonstrate the financial benefits I laid out above, I suspect they might take a 3rd look.

If labor wasn't an issue and you were only concerned about material and sq ft $, then the most efficient structure is a small footprint two story.

I would think it more advantageous to your family's "personal cost of living footprint" to sell your current place and downsize to something more financially comfortable for your budget. 

You are obviously an investor and you have left a footprint substantiatin that all over the internet (At least on this board you have) so, it wouldn't be difficult for someone to allege misrepresentation of intent.

They did not change the footprint of them home, just the layout.

The best source is drive the streets, talk to residents and investors who already have a footprint in the area.
