Every home received a new A/C compressor the day before closing and not a minute sooner.

I blew out the water lines with a compressor , drained the hot water heater ( kill the electric first)  .

Upon inspection it was discovered that the AC motor went out in the compressor outside.

That includes new insulation, sealing, windows, etc.Than have a Manual J calculation performed.Than you'll be able to compare the costs for the various systems that you want to install.The technology that minisplits use (inverter compressors) is now available for central air as well.

I had once a makeshift dental office in the living room with a compressor hose out the window. 

When I told him that wasn't humane he "didn't" suggest trapping it and dispatching it in the garage while running my compressor..luckily someone else got to him first because he stopped coming around shortly after.oh and we also had the hole filling battle with him for several summers before that.

Compressor and AC unit were a little bit older.  

If you wait it out and squeak enough, you'll save bunches.Since they have to be called out again for the same issue, you shouldn't have to pay another service fee.We got an inside condenser, fan, compressor, capacitor and outside fan replaced for $180. 

@Brie Schmidt I found the following under the Massachusetts general laws defining condos:''Common areas and facilities'' shall, except as otherwise provided or stipulated in the master deed, mean and include:—(1) The foundations, columns, girders, beams, supports, party walls, common walls, main walls, roofs, halls, corridors, lobbies, public stairs and stairways, fire escapes and entrances and exits of the building;(2) Installations of central services such as power, light, gas, hot and cold water, heating, refrigeration, air conditioning and incinerating;(3) The elevators, tanks, pumps, motors, fans, compressors, ducts, and in general all apparatus and installations existing for common use;

If you need the coil and the compressor then $2,000 is a fair number.
