I recommend seeing what and how much you qualify for first and then broaden your geographic location.

I will definitely take a look at your link to broaden my exposure and to get more information about how that could fit into my long-term goals.

So, this won't really broaden the pool beyond folks who are already in the financial industry. 

@David Slamer  you may want to to consider broadening your search to peripheral markets or areas/suburbs away from you.

Like you say, I may have to broaden my search so that there isn't such a limited about of deals.

If either or both of these are the case you have two more strikes against and that could add to your needing to broaden your search.

It also allows them to share the costs of maintenance, etc. with other owners.I'd suggest that you not only look at all the different investments, but broaden your perspective on the types of properties that are available in your area, you might find out commercial properties are better suited to your goals.
