Make sure the area is dry before doing any repainting or reconstruction.If the odor comes from the carpet, first, fix the humidity issue that causes the musty odor.

@Theodore Arzt, I screen the same way for a section 8 tenant.

Last tenant cooked some amazing Indian food but with the spices etc the new tenant is concerned the odor may still be prevalent when they move in.

@Hubert Theodore Personally I have a realtor I use who has saved me hundreds of thousands of dollars on multiple deals and does all the scut work so I don’t have to and makes all the calls and keeps track of all the timelines for me.

Hire a contractor to clean the ducts and that will probably remove the odor.

The odor is literally smoked into the lumber building materials.

The odor would be my concern.
