For the minimal savings, having to get it out of someone's property, transport it, and then get it into a rental unit, not worth the hassle and minor savings for a used appliance.

I imagine the contractor is thinking that you paid him to weld, not store & transport your railing.

As with most area of North Jersey, transportation to NYC is key. 

Plus, I'd have to hire someone with wheels and muscles to transport it - that's $75-100.....Thanks for the suggestion though.
