I've dealt with enough contractor hiccups that I would definitely want a very strategic process so that everyone knows when they are getting paid and what the expectations are. 

Buy/hold real estate investing on the other hand (such as done by Brandon Turner) has a much higher barrier since it typically requires lots of capital, the ability to get large loans (potentially from various sources), strategic relationships, a lot more knowledge/know how, and so on. 3.
