The reality is that, unless you're looking for somewhere that your primary goal is your own usage, it's just too late. 

Sounds like ecobee is more high tech with its room-specific feedback, but for your average usage Nest is fantastic.

I'm seeing high electric bills in our STR properties and was wondering if anyone had tried using a web thermostat to reduce power usage when the unit was vacant. 

I've heard of thermostats that only allow temperatures within a certain range or that have useful Wi-Fi components for managing utility usage.

I assume HVAC filters are required to be replaced every 2-3 months based on the usage and weather plus it improves its efficiency and reduce energy bill. 

I realize that this might be more subjective than trash, as water and sewer is more dependent on usage (number of units, etc).  

This should help you to stand out from the other rental ads.Some things to keep in mind, do you know about what your average water usage is now?

I bought one of these systems a few months back from my STRs and as@Mason Weiss correctly points out, they're fragile and you have to put yourself in the shoes of the average 7yo when anticipating usage.

The portion that is allocated to rental usage is not limited.A talented CPA/tax professional can do this allocation for you and ensure your taxes are reported correctly.Best of luck!

Google mesh is geared towards home usage, not dissing it as a product, just not something I'm personally familiar with.In IT consulting I've normally used Cisco for high end and Ubiquiti for small business/non PCI compliant.
