My wife and I have found that it can take a couple of years to get to know the nuances of a building - enough time to react to a decent variety of things going wrong - then you kinda know the more subtle gotchas.Couple more things to think about (we do this with our buildings):1- Consider services that deliver proactive maintenance.

Do not get me wrong, there is a STRONG case to be made to preserve the culture and not push out neighborhood natives with increasing taxes that accompany gentrification as the land values rapidly go up.
