I've made exceptions to my tenants on occasion and it's always 50/50.

If I owned something bigger than a four-plex and lived in it or worked on it on occasion, I would definitely pretend I was just a tenant or a contractor on payroll when I showed up to fix things or supervise work being done.

The possibility of having to allow animals in my property in case a tenant has one as a service animal or for emotional support is a topic that has stressed me out on occasion. 

I have had occasions where I asked someone to go with me if I thought there might be any trouble, I'm blessed with a really great brother in law who is a cop, he's a good guy to have in a tight spot.
