Now where the trend in site built is to expand the house and shrink the lot - so that outdoor space is all but gone and what there is is never used because it has no privacy, offsite presents the great opportunity to include large, pleasant, private garden like courtyards situated between each  home.

I once had something similar and that turned out to be a blockage on the air intake, windy day where a plastic grocery bag got sucked into the intake pipe just enough to completely block the pipe opening outdoors.

The one small exception I have is that in my lease I set the expectation that an assigned parking spot (outdoor, uncovered, unpaved) is the tenant's responsibility to maintain so they should shovel, rake, and trim plants.
