I think I have hit on a decent business that could employ 1 or two people and still generate a very reasonable return.My thoughts are the renter's would sign a loss and liability wavier and I would provide security cameras and lighting.

I had a plumber camera the line and it was completely corroded (this was 2 months after I bought it). 

The surrounding apartments had major improvements that maximized the space (larger windows, removing hallways and changing entrance, decks, cameras etc)  and created a very nice space.

A good camera or a new smartphone with a cutting-edge camera may trump the need for a laptop, but if you are seeking a laptop I personally like the Microsoft Surface Book - its lightweight, its got a touchscreen, it got a good battery and decent entry point for a decent machine. 

I feel like installing cameras which I have access to is illegal.

The camera we use is a Garmin Virb which is around $700 and the software is called Transported.

It means the neighbors have your number, it means when you have rehab happening, your contractor has a "sitter" for the house.I make my Detroit properties work because I am by them non-stop, I have cameras (the wires are inside of steel casing so they are more difficult to cut) I can monitor the premises from my phone or laptop.Detroit is not a buy it and forget it town. 

, security cameras, moisture sensors etc might pay off) a quick call to your insurance agent to ask for a list of things that will reduce your premium is usually worthwhile.

I'd like to install 1 or 2 security cameras at my rental property.

Also, pay $275 to have the pipes camera inspected.
