I rationalized the discount to myself by saying it may be difficult to get a new renter in, but it still may have been a little premature. 

So don't freak out about the crack prematurely, but definitely get some eyes on it.

In that case, I would open one with a small credit limit ($500) and never use it except to buy some gum twice a year to keep it active.

In Florida prematurely locking out the tenant (as you did) generally will result in damages being awarded to the tenant of 3x the monthly rent if it went to court, prematurely removing their property can also result in another 3x the monthly rent in damages or their actual damages whichever is higher.
