The sill plate is solid 10"x10" fir beams. even with years of water/insect damage it still has more life in it than the treated 2x4s you see today.

These squatters are likely both from Texas (Texas license plates, I don't have much more than one name, email, phone number, and whatever is on google), so they may have sought out a CA airbnb specifically due to the 30 day law.
