I've seen too many people in trouble because "everyone else is doing it" or "i learned it from a national speaker." 

I also saw the library is having speakers in June and July on real estate and investing etc.

I know that there is an REIA Group in Hagerstown which has a good speaker series, but I was thinking of a more discussion based group that could meet regularly to discuss ideas, experiences and topics of specific interest as decided by the group.I would be happy to do the organizing. 

There are cost effective national speakers who have courses, boot camps and materials that are not too expensive. 

My hope is to bring in speakers and create some sort of panel discussion every other week and then based on the knowledge or topic that is discussed perform a hands on activity related to that topic.

Our meetups are educational focused so we invite speakers on to do a Q&A about real estate investing.

In Columbus there are 2 primary sources:There is a FREE landlording meeting this Thursday, May 26th, at Tommy's Pizza on Dublin-Granville that features education (a Q&A session geared to newbies for general real estate investing and landlording as well as a featured speaker) and networking and has a good mix of newbies and experienced investors.

(And I'll second @Adam M. on Robinhood -- great choice for low-cost stock investing).Coincidentally, I attended an Online Lending meetup in New York last night, and one of the speakers was Ron Suber, the president of Prosper.
