I took a course one time and they said to visualize it like a ladder, your first objective is to figure out what wrung the other person is on, and then move to that position on the ladder and then try to keep the conversation at that level.

I just sat down and thought where would I like to be at the end of this year (because that is easier to visualize) and then fill in the steps to get there.

He will give you a report with issues that he is able to visually observe

I'd do visual breakdowns summarizing what I've learned, and add enough personality/energy to make it fun.
