The way in which I built my unit is like another house on the side of the main house with has its own yard space and entrance from the street making the main house and ADU completely independent of each other.

I am looking to purchase a single family home with a 2nd entrance and kitchen downstairs so that I can rent it out as a standard or vacation rental.  

After overpaying for our first house, we bought the condo at market value, and got a house that we love in our price range did I feel we did ok in our real estate purchases because the house is actually a two family with three beds 2 baths on one side and two beds 1 bath on the other with separate driveways, entrances, heat, electric and water heaters.

The optional bedroom is 15'x12' and currently has two entrances. 

I may be missing something here, but the purchase with HML is an entrance strategy, what is the exit strategy?

Some issues that I have run into were:Lights with no globeLighting in shared areas ( lighting must be able to turn on from all entrances)Trip hazards in drivewayAll door must open, shut and latch properly. 

@Daniel Hyman I would imagine that it "should" be labeled as 1 less bedroom if there isn't a window in the bedroom after the door entrance.

The main entrance (top floor) in the most accessible, and is also where most of the units are now. 

I like how the front entrance has at least 3 separate signs prohibiting loitering.
