Assisting homeless veterans is fantastic, and I am trying to do the same thing by volunteering and helping service members with PTSD.

And this idea came to me just this morning, that I can use some of this newly found time to volunteer, perhaps at a local animal shelter, since nothing makes me happier than working with dogs! 

I found my partner by reaching out to the most successful person I knew in multifamily and volunteering to work for her for one year, no strings attached.

In Cedar Rapids, IA there is a non profit group of retired guys mostly with some volunteer day helpers that build ramps for free so maybe there is in your area too. 

I tried to go to Foothill Community College and I was even in their Fire Department as a volunteer to help pay for it when a Councelor called me into her office to ask me what I wanted to go to College for?
