If that's the case, this is one of the risks I mentioned in an earlier post -- if you invest in an area that doesn't have a employment diversity, the loss of a big company or the downturn of a particular sector can certainly have a big effect.- The fact that your house hasn't appreciated in 15 years isn't surprising.
