Let him know that you upheld the contract, and that without an approved change order, you're not paying him anything additional.That said, had he done a timely job, not tried to screw you by not completing work, and had been trustworthy, it would have been reasonable for you to pay at least part of the extra amount (assuming you believed he did extra work).
