The one I looked at today had some water views but a large telephone pole and wires right off the balcony in the middle of the views! 

It's a bit of telephone game, of course, but the stories passed along from them about their neighbors' interactions did seem to contain some pressure to sell properties or face consequences, or stories about issues with school districts.

Maybe there's a for-rent banner with a telephone number in front of it. 

Now she does not respond to emails, there is only voice mail on the telephone and no-one answers the door. 

On my extended warranty contract, I couldn't find a number to call for service, so I called Home Depot and was given a telephone number that turned out to be for Whirlpool that manufactures Maytag appliances which seemed to make sense.

I'm sure it won't be the same as talking to another landlord, but I thought it was worth a 5 minute telephone call to make sure management hasn't had any issues with them over the last few years.  

I would also try to reach the landlord by telephone for a real time voice conversation.
