There's an opportunity for an ADU in the backyard, but I will buy another rental property before adding the ADU.

So this would actually work against the intended purpose. 

Back in the US I was constantly looking for multi-family properties but in Barcelona and Valencia I haven't seen any multi-unit opportunities really...

But, sometimes waiting and stacking cash for another opportunity is the best plan. 

I have an opportunity to do so in Southwestern Michigan (not Detroit)...90 minutes from Chicago and 5 minutes to the beaches of Lake Michigan.
