To my knowledge, STRs do not qualify for the real estate professional status as they are seen as a business venture and not real estate activities (this is why it is a "loophole").

@Alev G. the litmus test I use in exploring an area is incomes and population density.If the population density is too low and not somewhat close to an employment center it’s not going to be a Green light for me.

I've found that the best areas for the investors I have worked with on BRRRR properties are areas like Center Point, Fultondale, Gardendale, and Pinson areas.These areas are solid and aren't in warzones like Fairfield or Tarrant but will also produce you cash flow and equity unlike cities like Hoover or Vestavia.
