What about real estate in the countryside, e.g. a $2M vacation home in upstate New York or a $5M chateau in southern France -- do those properties have an international market?

I'll keep my money in more reasonable spots a little further up 85 in gwinnett county and into barrow(chateau élan).

The agents seem to give conflicting info on whether or not Fat City is a 'good' area (translation: safe, desirable rental market) with some saying they wouldn't even consider buying in that area of Metaire - saying they would "only" consider buying on the west side, around the University City area, where the Chateau Golf & Country club are.

I am considering buying an old home in France (not necessarily a chateau); they have houses called "manoir", that are really nice.

I still think the cash flow in this neighborhood is very good and frankly that is what Pittsburgh investors should shoot for...cash flow as opposed to appreciation.As far as development...there is a huge development in the works for the Manchester/Chateau area which is very close by.

It was French wine.. ( and he obviously probably got it somehow but somehow was probably illegal) any way being a young RE agent I had the 100 bucks.. so I bought it.Turned out to be a case of 1974 Chateau Marquex  the real stuff... even then was worth 100 a bottle..

Unless you're buying a chateau, I would stay away.
