It would be nice if you had a contact who was an actual mason not a marketer.  1930's construction is rare so maybe they cut some corners it was a global depression.  

Plus global warming has really helped with the winters.

There are also a lot of foreign investors looking to park cash since US real estate is considered very safe on a global scale.

As a Canadian, most of what you say regarding BC and Ontario is true due to Vancouver and Toronto being the major cities in Canada, but your immigration numbers and link to housing shortage is a bit of political rhetoric.
