These neighborhoods all have strong demand with Houston's population growth and close proximity to downtown/cultural centers. 

Bear in mind that, apart from Canada and some European countries to a certain extent, there's generally a lack of investing in real estate culture among the general population.If you absolutely want to invest in a country or place that only offers leasehold "ownership", you'd have no choice other than going for that.

@Chris Randall You said it all, "Gimmick" In marketing language, a gimmick is a unique or quirky special feature that makes something "stand out" from its contemporaries.

I learned quite a lot about the challenges of dealing with another culture on this trip.There is a story about an engineering professor who included the question "what is the name of our janitor" on the final exam.

That's not an area known for it's hippie-culture, right?

Some great Chinese construction supply houses in the city with good contemporary styles, and low prices so I can do nice kitchens, baths, floors for reasonable prices.

So if there really is a large paradigm/cultural shift coming out of this disaster, and we 1.) handle ourselves better than other states, plus 2.) recover financially faster than other states like the last couple recessions, then that could become a tangible positive reputational beacon that keeps the investment landscape strong. 

We try to bring them into our eco-system and culture rather than your typical relationship.I completely agree @Michael Smythe! 

This usually ends up in a "culture shock" mentality - where suddely BiggerPockets is the bad guy because we don't allow what everyone else does.
