But I did have one who upon moving in to a very clean apartment still had to complain about: a) dust on the ceiling fan blades b) a small amount of residue in one room from the painter that would have taken about 30 seconds to sweep up.

I live in Cali, so I don't care)-- Super quiet-- You don't have to cover up a window-- You don't have to cool the entire house if you just want to cool down a bedroom-- Some of them have swiveling blades, which I think are just awesome-- Lower BTU ones can run on 110vThe big name brand is Daikin.

For the standard residential system changing the filters regularly and cleaning the condenser/outside unit coil surfaces and fan blade regularly is probably all you need to do.

Fan blades never seem to get cleaned and it's a mess if there's a fan in the kitchen (the combination of grease and dirt on the blades cause an interesting challenge in cleaning between tenants).
