People will smile/laugh, appreciate the humbleness, appreciate his effort and others will probably come up afterwards and talk about how they're also a natural introvert - it's an easy convo starter.  

That would be the difference maker in my humble opinion.

Harder: Find a mentor (Be humble, patient and polite .... work hard for them because ultimately you have to offer them something in return) Everyone gets asked to be a mentor, but the mentor needs to get something out of the deal.
