you can use cheap flexible aluminum duct work even going 20 feet is better than nothing at all, but the closer the better of course.

Down in egg harbor theres probably a bunch of older homes that have cesspools, wells, oil tanks etc.Things to consider in older homes is if the foundation has a footing, oil tanks, failing septics, knob and tube wiring, federal electric panels, aluminum wiring, galvanized waste lines, termite damage, old heating systems etc.

We prefer newer homes to avoid lead, asbestos, aluminum wiring, etc., but even newer than 1978 has polybutylene (approx '78-early '90s); defective drywall (early 2000s), then there is always potential for flooding, mold, radon, etc.... so it really is just a matter of your own comfort level.
