So we (Tax Pros) will need to advise our clients on the benefits of taking the 20% QBI compared to the risk from exposure that 20% deduction might create... because many will derive from the above statement that basic landlord duties fall within the definition provided above (collecting rent, qualifying tenants, bookkeeping, etc.) and I'd be hard pressed to disagree with them in a vacuum... but .... the exposure.....

Or maybe OP is a super terrible bookkeeper and gives his CPA piles of receipts and junk and it takes them an extra 3 hours to basically sort things out before doing the actual return- no way to know from the info given if it's a good price.

If there was a lot of unbilled time, I will occasionally increase their annual bill for tax prep, particularly if the amount of support they require throughout the year seems to be a trend.But I try not to nickel and dime for tax work, although I do send out rather small bills on a monthly basis for bookkeeping work, I'm sometimes embarrassed.

If they can show the LLC was intentionally undercapitalized that is a basis to pierce the veil.Furthermore these setups are not free and the accounting can be very demanding in forms of book keeping.
