Coming from Asia where keeping face is very important, and living in a small town (less than 35,000 population in the County) where Police Station doesn't open during the weekends, and many people knowing your business, I would have very difficult time not responding.

The problem you would face is that you would have to pay the excise tax (hotel tax) but by paying it you are advertising that you are running a STR.
