The housing stock is shoddy, the majority of the properties are rentals, it's a high crime area (I've witnessed open drug sales & prostitution), and there just isn't much going on over there.  

Panhandling is one thing, but the squeegy scenario was just a mess.I can remember walking in Times Square and every street corner at least one prostitute would solicit me and my friends as we waiting for a green light.

Looks like the GOP is going to keep their winning streak going...next with David Vitter...You remember him, the Republican "Family Values" Senator from Louisiana who called for Bill Clinton to be impeached and then admitted to sleeping with prostitutes while having them dress him up in diapers.

This covers everything from very aggressive panhandlers to prostitution to drug dealing to robbery to poor race relations to rape to murder.
