You can do so without compensation, and build a bunch of good will, or perhaps you get a small part of the deal at the back end.

I have been doing this and using it as a communication tool and also to perhaps create goodwill with the tenants.On the other hand, perhaps it is only busy work that isn't providing a benefit for my rental business or the tenant.

Every heir has a price.Example 2 - Similar to example 1 and happened after example 1 we paid a heir to come sign a waiver that they don't want the belongings and that they recognize all items will be donated to Goodwill or thrown in the garbage.

If people ask about it (mostly they ask about a fridge) I recommend they pick one up at GoodWill which sells them for under $100. its not so much the up front money I am trying to save, its the hassle later on. 

You're buying tenants, reputation (good will) and the market as well as the building. 

We purchased our furnishings from a variety of sources - Amazon, Overstock, Goodwill, Craigslist, Bed Bath & Beyond and other local retailers.

This is my experience, and does not necessarily reflect the views of BP and/or the DM geniuses here. 1000/month if your list is good will get you about 1000 letters after you buy the list.  

Maybe they did that as a matter of good will but if the the buyer sued the seller the seller should immediately in cases of misrepresentation of the property turn around and sue their own agent and broker.
