I feel like these large luxury buildings are a gamble in many ways.

 $2k ouch, yeah I left the South Bay after GFC to live El Dorado county.I've kept 1 location running in Santa Clara since but with this current tech slowdown I'm closing it on the new year.I'm only 45 min to the border, and Nevada's always been my choice cuz I could go see my kids in San Jose quickly. 

You can buy a property just about anywhere along the Grand Strand and there will be several bars and restaurants that you can get to by golf cart.I have clients from California who just bought in Garden City Beach, on the border of Surfside Beach. 

I am from Newburyport which seems like it might be close to where you're at if you're near the NH border.

However, I talked to my realtor who got started in real estate via room rentals and he shared that as a 'border income' situation you actually have more rights than a traditional landlord.

Its a gamble, and the quality of these types of things vary, so we'll see.

A few suggestions:Get a Job, Borrow from Parents/relatives, Get a partner for the deal, or (trigger warning: not PC)  renounce US citizenship, cross the border illegally, and get all the government money you need.  

Way too much gambling/luck aspect to it and even when you win for the year the tax rate is awful compared to long term gains.
