Turn it on near the air return , turn fan to On position, close the house up and let it run for a few days and it will eliminate most odors.

It is oil based so it takes a long time to dry, and has a noxious odor, so I use a mask.

The other case of meat drying was something a friend ran into, that I think can be an issue if there is an offending odor (to some) and if that attracts animals like possums, raccoons etc...

I bleached the walls and cleared most the items out but there is still a strong musty odor.
