So I'd focus less on trying to get them to accept something they fundamentally do not want and instead either shift your strategy or get out of that property and into something that is more suitable to a short term rental.

You might have 30 days in-town of vacancy but it could be 3-6 months to find a suitable tenant out-of-town that values the acreage.  

After that 2 years has passed i would continue living in the house until i found suitable renters who are willing to pay enough to cover my expenses.
