Are you saying you want to STR rooms in the unit you are living in?

Complaints are always dicey when you live or have property in a jurisdiction they scan your license plate and have visibility into your property that may negatively impact you in the future.

You won't find a deal where you live for free, but if you can live in a great neighborhood at a reduced cost of living that is a nearly risk free way to get started in real estate. 

Selling may trigger capital gains tax, but if you lived there for two of the last five years, you may qualify for a Section 121 exclusion.
