Usually, I would say this is a lot to bite off, but you are young and already have a single family so you aren't a total noob. 

I had one investment property and one car, so not a whole lot to lose and no intelligent person that was looking to go gold digging would have picked me out of the bunch as a target.

Add in the numerous state laws and it makes for a lot info.

It seems these inevitably run into problems as the investment projections are not met, loses begin to pile up, SEC compliance issues are ignored, and numerous legal actions are instituted against the sponsor.   

If you go to invest in the note space I strongly recommend you do a quick background check on the sponsor as there are numerous who have very questionable pasts.
