I figure i would have no problem meeting some GCs that could wright out the scope of work and then work a deal with them to do the work Im not comfortable with while I would do as much of the work on my own to save some money.

@Linda Weygant Wouldn't the interest on the home equity debt used to go on vacation be deductible on schedule A if the total of the home equity debt was less than (the lesser of) $100,000 or the FMV - acquisition debt on the property securing the loan?
