Being self made has aspects of life challenges not just financially and in business but socially, ethically, religiously (if inclined) and personally as to your outlook on the bigger picture.

I think my time in Boy Scouts also helped me out there and developed me into a leader as well.

Same with religious matters with stickers on controversial issues.
