In the traditional syndication model that many here are used to, this is good advice, with an emphasis on READ BEFORE YOU SIGN.  

As the economy is a semi-independent/semi-world economy (independent economies dependent upon DEEP trans-national inter connections) various iterations of this are likewise playing out globally as well. 

I disagree with your emphasis on investment return however and would put tax free /advantaged cash flow first in the order as without the cash flow the rest falls apart.
