Where the manufacturers/builders tend to get frustrated is when they are finding about this last minute and you the customer ends up in the middle of a finger pointing disagreement where you dont know who is right or wrong.

The thing is you need to cross your fingers and hope you don't get audited.

But what I'm seeing is a lot of people making assumptions and finger wagging. 

When the customer gets caught , they claim ignorance and point their finger at the contractor .
