Suited homes are about $450+K looking at some PM companies, you'd get about $2K in rent for the main floor and $1.2K for the basement.I also have places in BC.

My gut tells me to ask them if you can short sell it.If you have other assets, because its a HML expect them to come after you for the delta - so foreclosure you will have a greater deficiency judgment.

Then you have to think about 401(k) and IRA savings, which longer-term once your balance is built up, you can use a self-directed approach whereby you can use the funds tax-free to invest in rentals, private loans, etc...

Because they have to make their distributions, they have to do the tax documents (k-1) and other costs for the cap table etc.
