I purchased a vacant lot in a distressed area in Pittsburgh, I got paid to buy it and if I can't sell it this year I will donate it to either the township a church or a local organization I know.

That's the same question I've been asking myself the last year :p Still super fun though.I recommend: save 10%, donate 10% to charity, and spend 80% of the money on the things you and your brother truly enjoy or have always wanted to do.

I got bored, with all of the down time between cashing rent checks and fixing toilets at 2AM so I went to graduate school and also became a an engineering consultant.About 10 years later I took a full time job again and am now a professor in manufacturing engineering, own a virtual manufacturing company, a media production company, and because of real estate investing, this year I will donate more than my take home pay back to the university I work for.I can honestly say that I retired at 26.

I agree with you about the NYC market (and Bay Area) being on fire.Currently I'm in apprentice mode, and would love to donate my time to help folks analyze deals, or be a second pair of eyes as they hunt for properties, or [name another need], as a way to contribute while learning the ropes.I'm in no rush to close deals of my own until I've had a chance to work with and learn from smarter folks such as yourself :)

They are located in a small town, so they may not be sold as quickly as larger areas like Knoxville (that I am near), but it is possible.The current owner is someone who has worked with my family before (donated to our campaigns) and that is how I have come across this.

If they were, then they would donate their fees/profits every time.But that wasn't the issue I was addressing nor do I think there's anything wrong with people making money AND helping out the seller.
