For cable, go wireless - one transmitter and 2 receivers.For internet, go wi fi with three secure SSID accounts - one for each unit.Big savings!

If this is an existing building, I would suggest looking into detectors that can be interconnected wirelessly (they are pretty new, I think first alert is a brand that has them) also you would have to check with the local building inspector to see if they are acceptable.

I was able to attach both a USB battery backup and/or external power, but had to modify the waterproof case to do it.Also, there is no wireless download of data, so you'll have to pull down the camera and swap SD cards every once in a while as well.I've also used the Dropcam.

A wireless system will still need to have the power to the cameras wired in, the resolution won't be as good, but it will still be plenty effective.In order to constantly monitor a system like this remotely, you will need, yes, good internet.
