All of the meetings that I see about ADUs are sponsored by builders who want to sell their ADUs.Are there others who want to build their own or want to share their experiences about building ADUs / converting outbuilding / navigating codes in Portland that DO NOT involve hiring one of these tiny house start-up companies?

You will have lots of expenses with the formation of a new LLC, lawyer fees, costs to start up payroll for this company, workers comp, new insurances, immediate repairs, etc.

You should make sure that you can afford the cost of the protection that you choose.You can write off 5k in the first year for startup of a new LLC, so if you have expenses related to starting the biz you can write those off.
