To me, if the corner is to the left of the range after say an 18 inch seht of drawers bottom cabinet, it's useful for stovetop cooking, laying out ingredients, etc... but add a two door base in place of the 18" and it becomes storage for appliances (which need a home too).

I completely understand if you give them an inch they take a mile, but at the end of the day, we are dealing with real people who are living much tougher lives than we are as Chicago and suburb landlords.Assuming they are a good tenant, I'd get the new mattress but do it in a way that the tenant knows that you did not HAVE to and you are doing it because it's the right thing to do.Randomly curious - how much do you get for rend and size of unit in Naperville?
