Trying to remove 400-500 SF of my living/dining, dealing with the attic insulation mess and then reinstall seemed like a much larger headache than simply attaching another layer.

The first home I'm tackling already has real wood floors in the dining/kitchen, and I am definitely need to go with carpet in the rest without it looking really out of place from other homes in the area.

I want to be within walking distance to features that matter like decent dining, possibly mass transit (My London VRBO was maybe 25 steps from the tube station, at best, ultra convenient).

The windows in reference are quite noticeably fogged and part of the roof is visible from the dining room.

The in-law suite has some universal access design features including an open dining, kitchen, and living area as well as a curbless shower that I had to plan for during the framing stage.
