I have small hobbies (i.e. buying/trading vinyl records) that generate a few thousand dollars each year so maybe I can just create a company with a bland, generic name like "Larry Endeavors" or something that allows me to claim any and all income I receive from whatever I happen to do in the year to earn it, allowing me to have the SD401(k)?

I would recommend interviewing several before choosing one (and checking references for each).Make sure that contract is solid, and protects you in the event that the contractor does not perform.call Dbpr and verify the contractor's current license and make sure that they are licensed for the county the house is located.Make sure they are properly insured (workers comp if 3+ employees)They should be pulling the permits in Their Name(not yours)avoid the bait and switch.....get contractors to lock in a FIRM PRICEYour being a woman will not determine the way an honest contractor deals with you... however the crooks out there will see you as a target.A good third party non-biased opinion would be getting an inspection from Larry Cerro.
