Medical tourism is picking up an will eventually be booming.     

Once an area is listed all over the internet as being #1, it is far too late.Unlimited amounts of potential and already it has blown up with future plans that are already approved for tourism, big time DOD Contractor and Space Industry, residential, health care, educational institute, and commercial development/ expansion.

Florida, in general, relies on tourism for a large segment of the economy, and the height of the shutdown was during spring break.

If you're willing to get into this knowing that you may make some mistakes, but will embrace those as learning opportunities, then you're chances of succeeding should be very high.

Not to mention the drop in tourism, and a growing portion of the workforce that may end up deciding not to take that temporary assignment in your city because they would be limited to a hotel room as their only option.

It's a bit of a different story between "vacation/relaxation/nature/sports" spots and "holiday/tourism" places. 

The greatest cultural weakness of this city, in my view, is that the residents refuse to change and let go and embrace new things.

To elaborate on @Lucas Carl's point - cities/towns that are driven by tourism are inherently more friendly to the STR market, as a large part of their economy is already driven by vacation rentals.
