The house was remodeled to be modern inside -- new hardwood vinyl flooring, new porcelain tile in the bathroom after subfloor repair, refinishing of the kitchen cabinets and countertop, subway tile backsplash in the kitchen, new paint.

However, that is far too drastic to contemplate so I'd be inclined to put a porcelain coaster under the offending foot.

Installing 1/4" board would cause porcelain tile to be higher than threshold.The subfloor is very solid.

I like the porcelain European "bow front" vanities, I have very small baths in all my units and it gives more floor space besides a nice classy look.
